“What I’ve started I must finish. I’ve gone too far to turn back. Regardless of what may happen, I have to go forward.”
In June of this year we attended our 6th Cloud Field Day in Sunnyvale, California and presented a virtual live stream with an audience of esteemed tech influencers and fellow movie nerds alike. Our annual presentation of course had to hook everyone in with an appropriate movie reference from our CPO/CMO and resident classic movie buff, Brad Parks; this year he focused on the legendary 80s classic “NeverEnding Story”
In the movie, main character Atreyu faces many challenges throughout the film on the quest to figure out how to cure what ails the Empress and overcome the wicked force that is the “Nothing” in the world Fantasia. He takes on the likes of sneezing giant turtles, the Swamp of Sadness, and various Oracles to discover what he must do to save his world.
Much like the hero’s journey in the movie, the world of platform engineering is full of constantly shifting formats and responsibilities, expanding demands of the market, and challenges left and right, leaving IT pros feeling constantly under attack. With the help of a luck dragon and the right mindset, however, these challenges can be overcome and you won’t drown in your traumatizing sadness (cough *VMware* cough).
Morpheus in 2024: The Criticality of Platform Thinking
As with every Cloud Field Day presentation, Brad kicks it off with a “What We Do” overview. This year, though, he focuses on the criticality of platform thinking. With all the challenges that IT teams face, it’s important to embrace unified and extensible platform frameworks to be able to bridge the gap between people, processes, tools, and technologies. The complexities don’t have to land you in the swamp if you take into account platform thinking – including scalable decentralization, expanding ecosystems, and a framework for collaboration.
Morpheus Tech Foundation: Developer Self-Service and Platform Operations
We’re visual learners, so our CTO David Estes gives a demo of the Morpheus platform in this snippet. Explore the various use cases that Morpheus addresses (various aaS, cluster management, runbook automation, etc), all while leveraging our self-service capabilities to enable speed and agility. Our governance framework is proudly on display for teams to work the best they ever have without stepping on each other’s toes. Morpheus really is a sort of luck dragon when it comes to achieving your IT goals!
Morpheus Platform Architecture: A Force Multiplier for Enterprise IT
Morpheus is a robust tool and has a lot of functionalities to help everyone on platform teams. We do everything from infrastructure provisioning to cluster management to runbook automation and beyond. Our Director of Technical Marketing, Martez Reed, gives us the rundown on why and how Morpheus is the force multiplier for IT teams. Market dynamics have made a lot of noise in the last two years, and Martez covers how Morpheus has responded and adapted to these changes. This includes features like our Distributed Worker and ability to deploy AI/ML Workloads.
Introducing MVM: An Embedded KVM-Based Hypervisor Solution from Morpheus
Speaking of responding to changes, Morpheus has been following the Broadcom acquisition of VMware for quite some time (see our several blogs here and here and here) and we took matters into our own hands knowing that customers are worried and considering other hypervisor options. Introducing: MVM, an embedded KVM-based hypervisor solution you can use to host workloads! David hops back on to demo its capabilities around configuring cluster deployments, management of networking, and more (the feature is currently in open beta and will be widely available later this year).
It goes without saying it’s an exciting (albeit somewhat stressful) time to be in IT. Whatever challenges platform teams face, however, can be combatted with the Morpheus solution (it can be considered your way forward ).
We always love reading everyone’s thoughts on the trends and on the event; listed below are some insightful reactions to the Morpheus presentation:
